At our regular communication May 28th, the members had a lengthy discussion about the financial status of the lodge to date. Due to the interest rates of our CDs dropping to an all time low, we have to take steps to cut expenses where we can. The biggest expense cut that we can make is not to give out Scholarship checks this fall. However, if the Brothers pull together and we can get everyone to work hard and participate in some fund raisers, we might be able to raise enough money to still hand out some checks, even though they might not be the full amount. We are currently in the process of scheduling 2 fund raisers in the near future. One is the Boston Butt sale for Independence Day, and the other is a golf tournament in September.
Once again Brothers, with the lodge spending more each month than it is bringing in, it will not take long for our reserves to be depleted and therefore, it was the wishes of the Master that we take action now to prevent more serious issues in the future. This was voted on by the members present and agreed to by unanimous vote.
We also discussed the issue of the members of the Craft who are receiving the scholarship checks each year. Due to the lack of participation on their part, the Master made a motion that in the future, the applicant’s father, who already has to be present to receive the check, will now have to be of further assistance during the course of the year. It is now a requirement that he be present at, a minimum, half of the meetings, 11, or all of the fundraisers, which last year was only 3. The members passed this unanimously as well. But brothers, keep in mind, no one is forcing anyone to do anything, this is merely a requirement for scholarship checks now. In other words, if you don't meet the requirements, (coming to the meetings or helping with fundraisers) your child is not eligible to receive a scholarship check.
At this time, all applicants who wish to submit a scholarship application for the Fall Semester, September, 2010, please do so. You will be notified that the checks either will or will not be handed out as scheduled.
If the Brothers step up and help out were they are needed, there is no reason why enough money can’t be raised to continue handing out the checks as usual.
